Summit is a spiritual retreat sponsored by the Western NC Conference of the United Methodist Church. It includes powerful sessions with challenging talks, inspirational music, and lots of fun for youth groups. It takes place at the Newton-Conover Auditorium in the Newton, North Carolina.

de’Angelo Dia uses photography, performance art, and creative writing to investigate public opinion and contemporary beliefs in order to catalyze dialogue around and public concern for cultural, social-political, and theological issues. Dia has studied art in Athens, Greece, Guadalajara, Mexico, and Nairobi, Kenya. He received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Communication and Sociology from Appalachian State University, a Master of Arts in Literature from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary. His artistic influences include Martha Cooper, Lynda Barry, ethno gothic literature, and neo-Appalachian art. Dia is an alumni artist-in-residence of the McColl Center For Art Innovation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts Culture (Artist Roundtable). He is also a member of the Goodyear Arts collective based in Charlotte, NC. Dia is currently the chaplain and dean of community life at Trinity Episcopal School.

Summit will be held February 1-3, 2019.

Summit is $45/per person.

Who is this retreat designed for?

Summit is for Youth Groups, youth grades 6-12. 

Where do we sleep?

Youth groups are responsible for their own accommodations. There are numerous hotels available in Newton, Conover, and Hickory.

Who will be the speaker at Summit this year?

It is our privilege to announce that de'Angelo Dia will be the speaker at Summit.
