Launching a Non-Profit – Peer Learning Cohort

April 30, 2021

This peer learning cohort is designed for clergy and/or laity who are working to develop a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

There are unique aspects of beginning a non-profit as a ministry within a local church.  The cohort will share challenges, lessons learned, and best practices.  As needed, the cohort will bring in guest speakers to discuss technical skills/areas related to non-profit work such as 501(c)3 applications, accounting that tracks funding streams, bylaws, memorandums of understanding, board development, grant writing, and other topics as determined by the participants.

Participants will give and receive feedback on documents, strategy steps, and challenges.

The cohort will meet monthly for 90 minutes via Zoom and use Basecamp (an online collaboration system) for information sharing between meetings.

The Non-Profit Peer Learning Cohort will begin meeting on June 10, 2021, at 1 pm and continue on the 2nd Thursday of every month.  Meeting times could be adjusted based on group needs.  There is open enrollment and participants will be able to jump in during any part of the ongoing cohort.

Cost: $25.00

The group is being organized by Rev. Kris Mares and Rev. Alexis Coleman.
