Preaching for Life: Preaching as a Source for Abundant Life
December 6, 2018
Led by Rev. Ashley Crowder Stanley, Pastor, Mills River United Methodist Church.
Jesus promises his followers that in him, they will have life and have it abundantly. Preachers are privileged to share this message of hope with those who listen. This is one reason that our preaching is so important and why it is critical that it is done faithfully, artfully and joyfully.
The goals of this peer learning experience are to grow in our understanding, practice and perspective of preaching so that our preaching will be enriched and our sermons will find deeper connections with the hearts of our parishioners.
Books to be used:
Gathering Up the Fragments by Mariann Edgar Budde, CSS Publishing Company
Making a Scene in the Pulpit: Vivid Preaching for Visual Listeners by Alyce M. McKenzie, Westminister John Knox Press
Preaching by Fred Craddock, Abingdon Press
Participants will also be given several opportunities to watch worship services/sermons online to observe effective preaching practices. To be assigned after the first session.
Participation is open to WNC clergy or ministry professionals who preach on a regular basis. Space is limited to 12 participants, accepted on a first-come basis. Registration will close when at capacity, or by January 8th. The cost per participant is $50.
Sponsored by the Western North Carolina Conference Leadership Development Team.
For more information, please reach out to Rev. Kim Ingram, Director of Ministerial Services.
