Engaging Young Adults: A Resource from the Center for Congregations

One of the best resources for a congregation is often another congregation. When facing a challenge or contemplating a new opportunity, a congregation can learn from the strengths and capacities of a fellow congregation, often even when the congregations are of different traditions, locations, sizes. As part of its Compass for Congregations series, the Center for Congregations has published this four-page article to share its learnings from some Indiana congregations that are successfully engaging young adults. The article points out that such congregations span the theological spectrum but do have some organizational characteristics in common. In engaging young adults, the experience of those congregations falls into several themes which are summarized in a “do and don’t list” for other congregations to consider. This article is a useful tool for congregational conversation about engaging young adults. It includes a set of questions for reflection and discussion about how these learnings apply in your congregational setting.
