A LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE



Designed for churches and clergy seeking to improve skills around leading change. Churches find themselves in a variety of places across this spectrum- considering or discerning change, stuck in the midst of leading change, or disagreeing on what changes should be prioritized, etc. This program is designed to assist churches and leaders wherever you find yourself on the spectrum.
 
The following program is designed to resource three characteristics of clergy leadership effectiveness.
  1.  FOCUS ON DEVELOPING, COACHING, AND MENTORING TO ENABLE LAY LEADERSHIP TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE
  2. INFLUENCE THE ACTIONS AND BEHAVIORS OF OTHERS TO ACCOMPLISH CHANGES IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
  3. PROPEL THE LOCAL CHURCH TO SET AND ACHIEVE SIGNIFICANT GOALS THROUGH EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP

SCOPE OF PROGRAM
  • Runs February through May with 4 monthly meetings
  • Format of 4 workshop-type sessions with time in between for work to take place
  • Coaching phone/Zoom calls in between to assist with application/reflection/executing
  • Maximum of 24 participants to ensure a quality experience both during sessions and with coaching.

  • Rev. Lory Beth Huffman, pastor, Boone UMC
  • Rev. Mark Key, pastor, Mt. Tabor UMC (Winston-Salem)
  • Rev. Chris Westmoreland, pastor, Long’s Chapel UMC (Lake Junaluska)
 
The four sessions will be held as follows:
 
  • Session 1: February 18-19 in Hickory
  • Session 2: March 25 in Winston-Salem
  • Session 3: May 6 in Huntersville
  • Session 4: May 20 in Huntersville

About Adapt! Leading Off the Map
-Open to any United Methodist Clergy serving a local church or extension ministry context
-Coaching component to help each pastor/church apply what they are learning
-This curriculum is designed to be action learning, so participants will be expected to apply what they are learning between sessions. Self-initiative, accountability and follow up are expected.   
 
Application Information:
-Application Deadline is Monday, January 7, 2019, or when full. 
-Cost per participant is $150.  Value is $500 +.
-Maximum of 24 participants
