Mrs. Betty Joan Jacobsen

We have received word of the death of Mrs. Betty Joan Ellington [Pope] Jacobsen on May 12, 2020.  A resident of Lowell, Mrs. Jacobsen was preceded in death by her first husband of 23 years, the Rev. Cletes Alfred Pope Jr.; her husband of 27 years, John David Jacobsen; and her brother, Rick Ellington.  At the time of her death, she was survived by her children: Penny Barker, Leigh Simmons (Steve Gordon), and Chris (Rae Lynn) Pope; and seven grandchildren.  A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with the Rev. Noel Sweezy officiating.  Visitation was from 10:00-11:00am, prior to the service.  Betty Joan was laid to rest during a private interment service at the Salisbury National Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the First UMC Building Fund, 5481 Hickory Grove Rd, Stanley, NC 28164 or Cancer Services, 306 S Columbia St, Gastonia, NC 28054.
