Update to retiree health benefits plan

July 29, 2020

The Western North Carolina Conference is pleased to announce an update to the retiree health program effective January 1, 2021. We have selected new providers for your medical and prescription drug coverage. The new providers selected are:

Medical Plan: Humana
Prescription Drug Plan: Humana
Plan Servicing and Administration: Benistar Admin Services, Inc.

We are transitioning from a self-funded health benefit program to the Humana Medicare Employer preferred provider organization (PPO) plan. This plan will provide all of the same benefits received under our current plan. But it will add benefits such as prescription drugs costs, dental, vision and other improved benefits. For your convenience, you will automatically be enrolled in this new coverage. As noted below, you will receive required information on how to opt out if you wish to obtain coverage elsewhere. The best news is that it will not increase YOUR costs for 2021 one penny!

Highlights of Your New Plan

Humana has participated in communities around the country for over 30 years and has established a national presence, with over 8.8 million Medicare members across all 50 states.

  • Your copays and coinsurances are the same for in-network and out-of network services and no referral is needed.
  • You have the freedom to visit any provider that accepts Medicare and agrees to bill Humana.
  • You will have access to well-being tools and resources to help you reach your personal health goals.

New Enrollment Welcome Packets

You will also receive a packet from Humana, containing items pertinent to your new coverage. Included within this package, you will find your new medical/prescription drug ID card, policy certificate, evidence of coverage, formulary, and another plan information. Once you receive these items, please discard your current ID card and use the new card beginning January 1, 2021. Please note you will receive one (1) ID card that can be used for both medical and prescription drug coverage.

At this time there is nothing you need to do if you wish to continue to be covered under the Western North Carolina Conference Health Benefit plans. All materials mentioned previously will be sent directly to you via the mail, prior to January 1, 2021.

For questions or concerns, contact Dale Bryant or Mark King at the Conference office.
