Conference Council on Campus Ministries meets to MAP a new direction.

April 10, 2018

The Western North Carolina Conference Council on Campus Ministries met Friday April 6 and Saturday, April 7, 2018 at First UMC Gastonia. The purpose of the meeting was to create a Ministry Action Plan (MAP) to help guide the councils work.

The weekend began with a time of communion led by Chairperson, Rev. John Howard, and Rev Jill Alventosa-Brown. The meeting was facilitated by Jack Ewing, senior consultant at Gonser Gerber and former executive director of Lake Junaluska.

During the meeting the council crafted a purpose statement, reviewed paragraph 634 of the Book of Discipline and prioritized the top five responsibilities of the council, identified tasks associated with the top responsibilities of the council, and created a timeline to accomplish said
responsibilities. The council’s goal is to empower local campus ministries to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

The council will continue to live into its new sense of direction when it has its next meeting in May.
