Committee on Relief Collects 14,500 Masks for Gastonia and Charlotte Area Medical Providers

March 30, 2020

Volunteers worked to retrieve 10,000 masks (mostly n95) from UMCOR cleaning kits and from Mission Response Center donations this past week. Among those working to help in this effort were students from the UNC-Charlotte campus ministry Niner United, Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, Ben Rogers, Associate Director of Missional Engagement, Brian Mateer, chairperson of the Conference Committee on Relief, Steve Cheyney, Disaster Response intern, Cailee Franklin, and two others. The group completed about 360 volunteer hours in two days. The masks collected will be donated to CaroMont Health in Gastonia who will then distribute them regionally where they are needed.

An additional group sorted through supplies at Cole Memorial UMC, collecting 4,500 masks and 4,500 rubber gloves. These supplies were donated to the logistics division of the Charlotte Fire Department who will distribute them to areas of need around Charlotte/Mecklenburg.
