A Prayer From Bishop Leeland
May 1, 2019
A prayer from Bishop Leeland in response to the UNCC shooting:
Almighty and Merciful God, hear our prayer for our fractured, broken, and sinful world, and in your love, grant us your mercy and healing.
The consequences of evil and sin break our hearts. As we confess our tolerance of violence, we also give thanks that Christ is reconcilingly all things in heaven and on earth. May we see signs of your healing presence in the sadness of this moment.
Ease the pain, hurt, fear, and dismay felt by students, faculty, and staff over the devastation at the University of North Carolina: Charlotte. Hear our prayers of thanksgiving for the courageous actions of those who responded so quickly.
Bestow your grace on us that we might be strengthened and protected against the assaults of evil. Give us the courage to model for the world the peace that passes all understanding.
Draw us ever closer to you, O Lord, that we might have the mind of Christ as we pray the ancient prayer of the Church, “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy.”
Transform us completely that we might receive your grace and spiritual strength to do your holy will in all things.
Amen.
