Duke Divinity School is now accepting applications until January 27th to participate in the 2023 DDS Preaching Cohort . This experience is generously funded by The Parish Ministry Fund and will be taught by the Rev. Dr. Michael B. Brown. Dr. Brown has practiced ministry for half a century, with his primary focus being on the Calling and Craft of Preaching. Cohort members will be guided through a strategic approach to that work, taking into consideration theory and practice for improving one's skills in the pulpit. You can learn more about Dr. Brown by visiting his website.
The curriculum is designed to be completed in nine sessions that will meet once a month from March to November. The sessions are tentatively planned to take place on Thursday afternoons, with the first session meeting on March 9. Each session will require advance reading and preparation and will entail approximately 120 minutes of lecture and discussion. With the exception of one session where the cohort will meet in person, the remaining sessions will take place virtually. Sessions are tentatively titled:

2) Styles and Sources
3) The Message and the Messenger: Mechanics
4) Thematic Sources
5) Preaching for the People
6) The Preacher and Self Care
