Means of Grace: Will There Be a Place For Me in the UMC?
|
In this week’s episode, we get to listen in on a conversation that took place during the 2022 Annual Conference. On Thursday evening, Bishop Carter, along with a group of clergy from across the conference, of various races, ages, genders, and ministry roles sat down for a panel discussion on the future of the UMC. Their goal was to answer a question you may have asked yourself a time or two – will there be a place for me in the continuing United Methodist Church?

The Church Development Office, in partnership with the WNCC Foundation and the Reynolds Ministry Fund, is excited to offer the 3rd Round of the BOTH/AND Hybrid Worship Cohort Grant in an effort to help our churches improve the quality of online worship and provide a framework for hybrid worship in preparation for a post-pandemic reality. This is a rolling grant. When you apply you will receive a response as soon as possible. We will receive applications until July 1, or until we receive 30 applicant churches.

UMsConnected, a new ministry based in the Florida Annual Conference of the UMC under the supervision of Bishop Ken Carter, has launched. It has come into being as the new United Methodist Church emerges. In this historic time of change, there are a variety of reasons why people feel disconnected. UMsConnected is a community walking together during this time of transition, "watching over one another in love," as John Wesley put it.

Congratulations Rev. Annalee Allen! This Year's Francis Asbury Award Recipient
|
The Francis Asbury Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to supporting and advocating for United Methodist Ministries in Higher Education at the local, district, or annual conference level. Honorees are chosen by the Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry and reported to the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
This year’s recipient, Rev. Annalee Allen, since coming on the conference staff and working with the Board of Higher Education, has gone above and beyond the call of duty to support and advocate for the campus ministries and Wesley Foundations in our Annual Conference.
She’s worked with our Annual Conference Board of Higher Education to restructure and refine our mission and purpose which is to empower those responsible for ministry on campuses so that students will become “Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
She has advocated for the establishment of a new Wesley Foundation on the campus of Lees McRae College called Common Ground. In 2019, this was the Wesley Foundation our conference had recognized and established since 1965.
During the pandemic, she took the initiative to apply for a grant from the Reynolds Foundation to make sure all eight of our campus ministries had the technology and resources they needed to do ministry in uncharted territory.
Congratulations Annalee!
