Come, Holy Spirit: A Retreat with Jack Levison and Priscilla Pope-Levison
July 8-10, 2019, Lake Junaluska, NC

Seventeen words into the Bible, the Spirit of God hovers over a murky chaos. One hundred thirteen words from the end of the Bible, the Spirit invites everyone who is thirsty to drink for free. At the start and finish of the Bible—Genesis 1:2 and Revelation 22:17—the Spirit is there, bringing order to chaos and satisfaction to people with parched throats.

From beginning to end, the Spirit is active, yet we know so little about the Spirit of God. Not anymore! Spend 3 days in the presence of the Spirit—studying, questioning, wondering, learning. With our Bibles at hand, we will explore the unknown but not unknowable world of the Spirit.
Come Holy Spirit: A Retreat with Jack Levison and Priscilla Pope-Levison, gives you the opportunity to search the world of the Spirit in the Old and New Testaments, where the Spirit hovers, fills, rushes, clothes, rests, and is poured out upon people. By studying the scriptures in this retreat, you will learn to expect the unexpected of the Spirit, to prepare for the unprecedented, and, just as important, to discover the unlikely presence of the Spirit where you may least expect it—in the grit and grime of everyday life.

Jack is the internationally acclaimed scholar and author of many books including Fresh Air: The Holy Spirit for an Inspired Life. Eugene Peterson, author of The Message writes, “Jack Levison studies, meditates, prays, and writes of the place of the Holy Spirit in our lives with more skill and understanding than anyone I know.”  Jack holds the W. J. A. Power Chair of Old Testament Interpretation and Biblical Hebrew at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. He has also held positions at Duke Divinity School and Seattle Pacific. Education: Ph.D., Duke University, 1985; M.A. Cambridge University, 1982; B.A., Wheaton College, 1978. (

Priscilla Pope-Levison is currently the Associate Dean for External Programs and Professor of Ministerial Studies at Perkins School of Theology, SMU.  Her interdisciplinary publications combine Theology, Gender Studies, Church History, and Mission and Evangelism. She has also held positions at Duke Divinity School and Seattle Pacific.  Education: Ph.D., University of St. Andrews, Scotland, 1989; M.Div. Duke Divinity School, 1983; B.A., DePauw University, 1980.
A dynamic team, Jack and Priscilla bring energy and enthusiasm to this retreat planned by Jennifer McSwain Martin and First Light Productions in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. The event will be filled with experiential learning, worship, music, and beautiful imagery. When the Holy Spirit is present, anything can happen and probably will.
