8/3/2023
News
The title of the didactic is "Critical Race Theory and the Church: Unpacking Race and Racism in Religious Spaces." This didactic will take place September 11, 2023 - November 13, 2023, via Zoom - each session will be one hour. In this six-week online course, we will delve into the fundamentals of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and explore its relevance and application within the context of religious institutions, with a specific focus on the church. By examining historical perspectives, contemporary issues, and theological implications, we seek to foster a deeper understanding of how race and racism intersect with faith and spirituality. Through open and respectful dialogue, we aim to create a space for meaningful discussions that promote empathy, critical thinking, and transformative change within our religious communities. News
You are invited to join us for the Caring Congregation Conference August 28 & 29, 2023 St. Luke's United Methodist Church Hickory, NC We are sending this special invitation to you as a Local Pastor or Certified Lay Minister to join us and bring someone from your church. Jesus was a healer and connected and cared for others through His teachings and stories. His example calls us to provide meaningful care and support through the peaks and valleys of our lives. This is why we believe care ministry is the heart of the church and essential for the evolving Christian Community. Our care ministry training is based on a scalable model of care developed and implemented at the Church of the Resurrection by Rev. Karen Lampe. The UMC Lay Servant Ministries recognize it as a qualification for a Specialization in Congregational Care for Certified Lay Ministers . Leaders and speakers for the day are: Rev Monica Childers, Deacon and Associate Pastor of St. Luke's UMC, Hickory Beth Osbahr, Certified Lay Minister and Care Ministry Coordinator of St. Luke's UMC, Hickory All materials, books, snacks, and lunch are provided. The only cost you will need to cover is the travel. You and your ministry partners will be led through establishing a care ministry and developing the practical methods of care within a care team.
