Dr. Samuel Moore, Jr. Appointed Yadkin Valley District Superintendent

Bishop Leeland announces an appointment change to the Western North Carolina Cabinet, effective July 1, 2020.
Rev. Dr. Samuel Moore, Jr. will be appointed as District Superintendent of the Yadkin Valley District, succeeding Rev. Mike Bailey who retires this year. Sam has served as the senior pastor of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte since 2015. Prior to this appointment from 2008-2015, he served as the District Superintendent of the Northeast District and of the Uwharrie District.
An ordained elder in our conference, he is a graduate of Greensboro College, Greensboro, NC (B.A. Degree in Religion); Duke University Divinity School, Durham, NC (Master of Divinity Degree); and Drew University, Madison, NJ (Doctor of Ministry Degree). Sam has served on numerous boards and committees within our conference, including the Board of Ordained Ministry, the Board of Trustees and Black Methodists for Church Renewal. He has also been active in community service with the NAACP and as a board member for several educational institutions, including Bennett College for Women, Pfeiffer University and Greensboro College.
The son of the late Mamie Lee and Samuel H. Moore, Sr., Sam was born and raised in Reidsville, N.C. He is married to Marva Lowe. They have a blended family of five children, thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Rev. Angela Pleasants, who was previously announced for this role, has requested to be reappointed to a local congregation. Angela has served as the District Superintendent of the Catawba Valley District since 2016. Her new appointment will be announced on Appointment Sunday, May 3.
