Brian Mateer named Conference Disaster Response Coordinator

The WNCC Disaster Response Team is pleased to announce that Brian Mateer will begin work as the Conference Disaster Response Coordinator in addition to his current and ongoing role as the Associate Director of Missional Engagement. The Conference Disaster Response Coordinator plans, organizes, and supervises early efforts related to disasters occurring in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church ensuring that there are sufficient financial and volunteer resources to carry out the readiness, relief, and recovery ministries and to meet Conference goals safely and efficiently.

Brian will remain in his role as Associate Director of Missional Engagement supporting the work of the conference mission ministries - a role he has been in since December 2019.  Prior to his work at the Western North Carolina Conference, Brian worked as the Director of Missions for Providence United Methodist in Charlotte and as the Director of Youth and Mission Ministries for the Danville District UMC of the Virginia Annual Conference and in the same role at First United Methodist Church in Martinsville, Virginia.

Brian is a native of Virginia, loves to travel, enjoys the outdoors and is an avid supporter of Charlotte FC, the new Major League Soccer team set to kick off in 2022.  He lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife Amy and four daughters, Mackenzie (13), Kylie(13), Madelyn (12) and Katelyn (9) and two dogs Andi and Lydia.

Ben Rogers named Mission Response Associate

The Mission Response Associate will develop Disaster Response Training opportunities, support mission communications, provide oversite and manage volunteer opportunities for the Mission Response Center of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Additionally, Ben will work to support the logistics of UMCOR kits, Project AGAPE shipping, and Disaster Response supplies and equipment. This newly expanded full-time position is a consolidation of various part-time positions.

Ben began supporting the work of Disaster Response of Western North Carolina Conference as an intern in 2019.  We are pleased to expand his role to full-time Mission Response Associate with the Mission Engagement Team.  

Originally from Fayetteville, NC, Ben has lived in Charlotte since 2014. He is a 2019 graduate from UNC Charlotte and is a current Hybrid M.Div. student at Duke Divinity School, exploring a call to ordained ministry. He and his wife, Brittany, have one dog and enjoy spending their weekends traveling and exploring the outdoors.
