Pfeiffer's YeTI program offers great experience for high school students

March 14, 2017

Pfeiffer Youth Theological Institute a/k/a/ YeTI is a two-week summer experience for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who want to become useful and effective servant leaders—and are ready to learn more about themselves in relation to God and God’s call on their lives. The dates for this year’s program are June 18 through July 1, 2017.  Over the course of two weeks, students will explore time-honored theological ideas, put faith into action through hands-on learning, engage in a daily rhythm of prayer and worship and discover what it means to be a beloved member of God’s household through field trips, community service and outdoor leadership training. After engaging in this program, students will be better equipped to lead mission and ministry in their home communities. During the first week, students will experience Pfeiffer University’s undergraduate campus in Misenheimer, N.C.  During the second week, students will travel to one of three cities for community-based projects centered on topics introduced during week one. For example, students who choose to serve in Charlotte will work with Pfeiffer’s sport ministry partners, such as the Charlotte Bobcats, Charlotte Hornets and NASCAR, while working with Charlotte-area youth. Those who go to Asheville will stay in the Haw Creek community, working with the Missional Wisdom Foundation to put to use principles related to eco-justice and community building.  In Washington D.C., students will participate in the work and ministry of agencies housed in the Methodist Building on Capitol Hill, The United Methodist General Board of Church and Society and Wesley Downtown as they explore issues of immigration and justice on small and large scales. Due to the generosity of the Lilly Endowment, cost for the program is $300.  Information and registration can be found at www.pfeiffer.edu/yeti, or contact Sherri Barnes, program director, at sherri.barnes@pfeiffer.edu or 704-463-3073.
