Hurricane Harvey Update

August 28, 2017

The information has been constantly changing since Sunday night, to get the most recent information--go to the Disaster Response page Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast of the U.S. August 26 affecting millions of people with multiple days of heavy rain, winds, and rising tides. The United Methodist Church is actively present, working with local and state emergency management, FEMA, and other volunteers active in disaster. The Western North Carolina Committee on Relief encourages you to:

Donate: We invite you to stand with our neighbors on the Gulf Coast during this time. Your gifts ensure that our church will be able to provide help and hope for those left homeless or otherwise affected by this disaster for years to come. Please mark your donations for Western North Carolina teams and relief aiding in Texas and beyond  "Disaster Response" and make checks payable to:

Or you may mark your offerings to UMCOR Advance 901670

Supply Relief:

Please help us build the UMCOR inventory of relief supplies.  At this time, UMCOR is in need of hygiene kits and cleaning buckets. With many potentially suffering damage to their homes from flood waters, our greatest need is cleaning buckets. Churches and individuals can assemble these supplies, deliver to one of these drop sites, and the supplies will be shipped via UMCOR to the most necessary areas.

Early Response Teams:
The Rio Texas Conference is asking for ERT’s. Only currently certified ERT members are being accepted. Teams will base out of Corpus Christi and should register here. ERT trained individuals/small groups not part of a team should register here. Current needs include debris removal of down trees, and roof tarping. Many homes have water damage from damaged windows and roofs.

Long Term Recovery:
The effects of Harvey will keep long term volunteer teams busy for years. Please be patient before sending long-term building and recovery crews. Please do not arrive without an invitation, and only after Early Response Teams have prepared the location.
