Brotherhood/Sisterhood Sunday is February 21
January 28, 2016
The Brotherhood/Sisterhood of the Western North Carolina Annual Conference exists as a means for the clergy and laity of the WNC Annual Conference to be in ministry to the families of clergy in the annual conference in a time of great need—the death of other clergy. We exist to provide the Annual Conference with the opportunity to provide tangible support to the families of our deceased clergy in their time of loss and to express our solidarity with them. Upon receiving word of the death, a check in the amount of $9,500 is immediately given to the surviving spouse or other designee. This provides immediate financial assistance to the family of the deceased clergy member, at the same time expressing love and appreciation for their ministry and service. The third Sunday in February has traditionally been observed as Brotherhood/Sisterhood Sunday. The Board of Directors of the Brotherhood/Sisterhood encourages every local church in the Annual Conference to observe Brotherhood/Sisterhood Sunday on this day, or on another Sunday in February that is convenient for your congregation. Further information about the ministry of the Brotherhood/Sisterhood can be found at http://wnccumc.org/brotherhoodsisterhood/.
