Summer Intern Ministry Accepting Applications
January 27, 2016
The Office of Ministerial Services is pleased to announce a summer ministry internship for college students.
This 10-week, full time ministry experience is for college students who are exploring a vocation in ministry. They will be mentored by a United Methodist clergy in a local church in Western North Carolina. The project seeks to prepare young people to hear God’s call to ordained ministry by placing them in the context of a ministry setting and allowing them to shadow a clergy person. The internship will include an opportunity to experience a range of ministerial responsibilities under supervision of an ordained deacon or elder who will serve as the mentor. Together the intern and mentor will create a Ministry Covenant and will participate in regular theological reflection. Additionally, lay members will provide hospitality and support to the intern.
The internship will begin May 23, 2016 with a training session for interns and mentors and will conclude on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Interns will receive a $3,000 stipend for their service. Interns should be members of a United Methodist Church or a baptized participant of a United Methodist campus ministry. Preference will be given to students from Western North Carolina.
Applications are now being accepted for interns. A timeline and list of commitments can be found on the application. Applications are due by email on Monday, February 22 to squeen@wnccumc.org.
Questions should be directed to Sally Queen (squeen@wnccumc.org or 704-535-2260, ext. 111).
