Young Clergy Invite You to Lenten Devotions
February 18, 2015
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, two young clergy in the Western North Carolina Conference, James L. Burroughs III and Juston R. Smith invite you to embark with them on a 40 day time of reflection. During the season of Lent, Burroughs & Smith will be writing reflections from varying viewpoints on the writings of theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. They will be using the devotional book God is on the Cross: Reflections on Lent and Easter as a starting point to their reflections and devotions. You are invited to join in the discussion and 40 day devotion on the new website devoted to their writings: www.lentendevotions2015.com.
Rev. Burroughs is assistant pastor at Mount Pisgah UMC. He is an alumnus of North Carolina State University with a BS in biochemistry. Currently, he is a Master of Divinity student at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina. His interests include the intersection of politics, theology, and race.
Rev. Smith is pastor of the Belwood Charge. Juston’s passions include crafting creative, imaginative, and authentic worship services; crafting sermons that look at answering the hard questions; and visioning for the future of the church. Juston is a 2008 graduate of Appalachian State University, and a 2014 graduate of Hood Theological Seminary.
