Churches make ‘Feeding the 5000’ reality

A crowd was gathered outside at Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church in the early morning drizzle on Good Friday. They were waiting to get a box of food.
The official start time for “Feeding the 5000,” a community event hosted by the Guilford West Missional Network was 9 a.m., but when volunteers saw folks standing in the rain, they opened the doors an hour early.
The idea stemmed from the model that Scott Thornhill, a member and youth leader volunteer at Muir’s Chapel, had seen in action at Lawndale Baptist Church.
“They do theirs at Thanksgiving, but I thought it would be a great time to do this at Easter,” Thornhill said.
The idea was simple: Feed 5,000 people in Greensboro an Easter meal, 1,000 boxes of food with enough in them to feed a family a five. Read entire article
