Bishop Carter and Appointive Cabinet Announce Projected Clergy Appointments to Local Churches
|
Bishop Kenneth Carter and the appointive cabinet of The Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, in consultation with the clergy and authorized lay leaders of the local churches, announce the following projected appointment changes, to take effect July 1, 2023. This act of ministry is in fulfillment of paragraphs 425-429 of the 2016 Book of Discipline. Clergy in extension ministry will be included in the final report shared with the annual conference in June.
“This has been a complex season of appointment-making”, Bishop Carter noted. “Many churches are still re-gathering after the pandemic. A number of our churches engaged in discernment around disaffiliation from the denomination; we will act on these decisions on May 6. And yet the faithfulness of laity who love their churches and the commitment of clergy to their callings is inspiring. As we live in 'the great 50 days', we claim the presence of the Risen Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, even and especially in these transitions."
Let us lift these clergy, their families and the local churches in prayer, in the hope that we will all more fully participate in our mission— “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world” (Book of Discipline, ¶ 120).

Means Of Grace Podcast: Lighthouse Congregations: Creating a Space for Healing & Hope
|
Director of Church Development, Rev. Rob Hutchinson, speaks with several pastors of Lighthouse Congregations. Together, they explore what it means to be a Lighthouse Congregation, how these families of faith are creating space for healing and hope for the individuals who find themselves without a church home after painful disaffiliation votes, and how this care-first initiative is providing opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus for our fellow United Methodists.

Registration for Child Care at Annual Conference Is Now Open
|
Ministry doesn't have to be left to adult leaders alone. Children of all ages contribute to the community of faith and have the capacity to call out God's work in their neighborhoods. In order to foster young, missional minds, the 2023 Annual Conference will offer a family friendly program option: The Neighbor Way* Camp for kids. This multi-session offering will help kids understand that the church is not only what happens on a stage, but what's happening in the streets of their community.
With games, crafts, stories, snacks, and songs, Neighbor Way Kids Camp will give kids a glimpse at how God works in the world, and teach them some principles and practices that increase their participation in this good news.
Thanks to Partners in Health and Wholeness, the Neighbor Way Camp will offer additional family friendly options:
- Lunch and snacks are included with the registration fee
- Lunch will provided on Friday and Saturday (no charge) - On Friday, lunch will be offered for free for the entire family
- FREE Support sessions available to parents (as scheduled with professional coaches/counselors)
- Early Bird Registration is $25 per child/per session with a $100 maximum family cost (Ends May 10th)
- Regular Registration is $30 per child/per session with a $125 maximum family cost (Ends June 1st)
