Is The UMC Really...? Series
|
With some congregations considering leaving The United Methodist Church or just wondering about its future, Ask The UMC offers a series of questions and answers to help clear up some common misperceptions or misinformation around disaffiliation.
This is part 10: Re-Voting, Seminaries, Same-Sex Weddings, and Critical Race Theory
This is the tenth of a series of articles offering factual responses to questions we are receiving. This article addresses whether a re-vote on disaffiliation is allowed, whether United Methodist seminaries teach doctrines contrary to those of The United Methodist Church, whether local churches will be compelled to host same-sex weddings, and whether The United Methodist Church endorses critical race theory.
Questions answered in this article:
Is The UMC Really....?
1. Allowing congregations to re-vote if their church conference vote to request disaffiliation failed to reach the mandatory two-thirds majority?
2. Teaching things in its seminaries that are contrary to the doctrinal standards of The United Methodist Church?
3. Going to require local churches to host same-sex weddings? What if their appointed clergy are allowed to and willing to do so?
4. Endorsing critical race theory or about to endorse it?

SEJ BMCR Youth Harambee 2023
|
Harambee is a Youth Conference planned by the Harambee Planning Committee under the guidance of the Executive Board of the Southeastern Jurisdiction Black Methodists for Church Renewal, Inc. The conference will also help youth, as well as adults, explore what it really means to pull together and work together in Christian love. Come to work, play, sing, and build meaningful relationships with God and each other.
Let's be intentional and encourage our youth to experience this exciting time!
Youth 12-18 years of age interested in attending should contact the Western NC BMCR Youth Chairperson, Mrs.Tina McLendon at 704-363-1222 (tinajmclendon@aol.com). Participants attending from Western NC should send their application with all pertinent documents to Tina McLendon by April 20, 2023.

An Update on Project AGAPE
|
WNCC and Project AGAPE will NOT have a Spring 2023 collection of donations usually collected during the month of April. International shipping issues created by the pandemic are still plaguing the industry resulting in shipping backlogs. Due to these backlogs, 3 to 4 containers of donations are still being stored at the Mission Response Center in Terrell.
We ask that individuals and churches hold on to your donations until September 2023, when we hope to reinstate donations in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of our ministry with Project AGAPE. Thank you for your understanding and please keep our Christian brothers and sisters in Armenia in your prayers.
