Organist/Accompanist
JOB TITLE: Organist
REPORTS TO: Director of Music, Senior Pastor, Staff-Parish Relations Committee
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Salaried (Exempt); Part-time
HOURS: Sunday morning for worship and rehearsal, Wednesdays for rehearsal, practice time as needed. Time off must be scheduled with the Director of Music.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Organist is responsible to work with the Director of Music to provide musical leadership for Services of Worship and other events or programs in support of the mission of FHUMC. Specifically, these current duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Individually:
- Accompany the congregation, choir and other musicians at Sunday Services of Worship on either organ or piano as determined by the Director of Music
- Enhance and support the ministry vision established by the Director of Music
- Select organ service music that will enhance the liturgical and theological theme of the season and Service.
- Play organ/piano for other Services beyond Sunday mornings, including weddings and funerals
- Play organ/piano for special seasonal Services such as, but not limited to: Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday
- Accompany the choir and other musicians during weekly rehearsals and rehearsals on Sunday morning
- Obtain substitutes as needed
- Maintain a practice regimen and continuing education to enhance skills
- Be available as needed for other duties required by staff
- Encourage children and youth to participate in Music Ministry
- Spirit of respect and collaboration with Clergy and staff of FHUMC
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated commitment to Christian discipleship. Theological understanding of music and the importance of music in worship. Bachelor’s Degree in Music preferred, along with experience in the church setting. Ability to work with both clergy and laity to promote a music ministry where people love God, grow in their faith and serve others.
