Ministry Position Description:
The Director of Traditional Music Ministries leads all ages in music-making experiences so that they: will grow in understanding the Christian faith and music’s role in that faith, will develop and strengthen their relationship with God, will become better equipped for daily living as faithful Christian disciples and will gain basic music skills so that they may effectively serve the church as music leaders.
Results of Ministry:
There is a comprehensive traditional music ministry strategy and plan that aligns with the mission of FUMC.
Musicians are recruited, developed, and inspired to share the love of Christ through music and worship.
Rehearsals are scheduled, executed and effective at creating a well thought out and prepared plan for worship services.
Collaborative work with the ministry staff creates meaningful worship experiences around the United Methodist Lectionary inclusive of holidays such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, etc.
Various forms of music are incorporated to build a robust service including instruments, vocalists, etc. that assists with connecting attendees with God and each other.
Children and Youth of the church are led and engaged to participate in various music programs.
Coordination and collaboration occur with the Contemporary Worship Leader that ensure services are aligned with a common theme, purpose, etc.
Community outreach programs engage community members through musical experiences (Music at First series, etc.).
FUMC Weekday School has a fun and engaging music program.
Appropriate forms of communication (meetings, social media, email, blogging, etc.) are maintained with choir members, church staff and supporting committees.
An active participation in the worshiping life of FUMC is maintained through Sunday Morning Worship, Small Groups, and Special Events.
Active engagement in the body of the church is achieved by participating in activities, connecting with new and existing members and welcoming guests.
Regular maintenance is scheduled and performed on church musical equipment (various pianos, organ, hand bells, chimes, etc.).
Funerals, weddings, and other events performed at the church are supported (this may include night and weekend work).
Qualifications:
A committed and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord, demonstrated by a consistent witness.
A dedication to the church, promoting an environment of support and unity.
Experience in leading church worship through music.
Experience / Expertise performing on various instruments including, but not limited to, organ, piano, hand bells and chimes.
Interest in a wide range of musical experiences.
A bachelor’s degree in music is required, and higher education is preferred.
A passionate desire to lead Christ followers through musical experiences.
A familiarity with and commitment to Wesleyan theology.
An understanding and support of the United Methodist Church’s doctrine in all areas of faith and practice.
An ability to network, lead, and build a team, while working as a team member with church staff, Church Council, and other groups.
Familiarity and demonstrated ability with social media and electronic communications, and overall strong communication skills.
Demonstrated organization and time-management skills as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities at one time.
Salary is based on experience and/or educational background.
