Summary/Objective

Provide oversight of the financial affairs of the church in support of our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world; responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

Responsibilities

·        Develops, leads, implements, and maintains all financial planning and analysis including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management for Brentwood UMC, The Village Church, Trinity Church, the Early Learning Center, BUMC Day School, and the BUMC Foundation

o   Develop annual operating budget in collaboration with Lead Team and department directors
o   Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports while tracking key performance indicators
o   Oversee and reviews accounting tasks, including payroll, purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, stock transfers, and compliance
o   Present financial reports to Lead Team, Finance Committee, and department directors
o   Oversee annual audit
o   Coordinate year end records retention
o   Collaborates with investment managers and bank executives developing strategies for successful money management

Staff liaison to BUMC Finance Committee and BUMC Foundation presenting monthly financial reports 
Oversee tracking and reporting of pledges for capital campaigns, annual stewardship campaigns, and special offerings responding to congregants’ inquiries regarding contributions and other financial matters 
Maintain the ongoing personnel budget and provide support for the Executive Director and Human Resources regarding budget performance, staffing costs, etc.
Collaborate with Director of Human Resources and HR consultants regarding payroll processes, end of the year employee reporting, and time management systems
Accurately maintain employee information related to the pension board database
Manages BUMC’s membership & financial database systems working with database team, software vendors, and other technology services to maintain accurate and timely membership, contribution, and budget information
Manage data input and integrity
Create and/or train staff to develop queries and run/export reports as requested
Establish and implement database management goals, policies, and processes to meet the needs of the organization
Drafts and implements financial policies and best practices to support achievement of goals and objectives meeting required standards
Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS).
 
Competencies

Advanced level of expertise and experience with FP&A software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Understand financial reporting and has strong analytical skills
Communicates effectively and has exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Develops strong working relationships with colleagues across departments and seniority levels
Excels at multi-tasking, organization, and time management in a fast-paced environment
Maintains a high degree of confidentiality
·        Leadership skills and experience in supervising, coaching, and evaluating staff performance

 Education and Experience Requirements

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
·        Master of Business Administration or a Master’s in Finance a plus
·        Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and Chartered Financial Analysts (CFAs) preferred
·        Five (5) – seven (7) years of related accounting management experience
·        Demonstrated accounting and management experience in a complex organization
·        Experience in non-profit accounting and reporting a plus

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises, leads, and directs the Finance and Database Teams by assigning projects, training, coaching, providing development opportunities, and conducting performance reviews.

Work Environment

This job operations in a professional office environment.   This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Expected Hours of Work

Days and hours of work are Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. Position requires additional hours during certain projects. Occasional evening and weekend work required. This position qualifies for occasional remote work based on Brentwood UMC Remote & FlexWork Schedule Policy with approval from supervisor.
