Position Title: Director of Music
Reports to: Associate Pastor
Hours: 30.00 (with potential for more hours based on work activity)
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Music is the music planner for the weekly Sunday services at 8:30am and 11:00am, incorporating different genres of music to create an upbeat and joyful worship experience. This requires administrative time in keeping all parties informed/involved and diligence in assuring the music ministry is prepared each Sunday.

Plans music for Sunday services at 8:30am and 11:00am.

Directs the Chancel Choir

Directs the Early Singers

Directs the Voices of Bronze handbell choir

Directs the United Methodist Men’s Choir

Directs the Children’s Choir in music that is appropriate thru 5th grade which the children sing in worship.

Provides assistance to soloists and other small ensembles.

Works closely with staff in planning worship experiences.

Selects music for the congregation and choirs that enhance the message of the day and the Word of Christ.

On occasion, acquires musicians and notable outside artists to perform in worship services or in concerts.

Non-auditioned Chancel Choir for 11:00am services. Rehearsals 90 minutes weekly. Additional rehearsals as required by performance demands.

Non-auditioned Early Choir for 8:30 services. Rehearsals 30 minutes weekly prior to the service.
Additional rehearsal as required by performance demands. -
Handbell choir (4 octaves). Rehearsals 60 minutes weekly. Additional rehearsals as required by performance demands.

Non-auditioned men’s ensemble (United Methodist Men). Sings every 4th Sunday at 8:30am service. Rehearsal 30 minutes prior to the service.

Soloists and others are selected to sing periodically during services. Suggestions for song selections and vocal coaching is often given.

Works with Praise and Worship team to prepare music for occasional combine services.

Oversees the Organist/Pianist
Other requirements:
-
Meets with the staff bi-monthly for long range planning.

Meets routinely with the Senior Pastor and Associates for in depth dialogue regarding the plan for weekly services and seasonal programs.

Submits and maintains the copyright license for the church

Prepares and maintains a budget for music. Submits a budget proposal to the Finance Committee annually. Must be able to work within the budget.

Works with the ministers and families to prepare music and secure musicians for weddings and funerals held at Mt. Pisgah Church.

Works with the ministers to prepare music and secure musicians for special services such as Good Friday, Christmas Concert, Veteran’s Day, etc.

Consider a time of music with children from the Mt. Pisgah Weekday School

Seeks ways to take Christ’s word out into the community through special music programs.
Education/Training: Bachelor’s Degree is preferred along with job-related experience. Must be able to work with people and establish relationships, love the Lord and love of church.

Regarding social media, emails and texts – Employees are a reflection of the church at which they are employed, following them both inside and outside of work. When deciding what to share on social media, employees should use common sense, respect the relationship with their employer and be careful of the image they project including online, emails and texts.
