Position Overview

 

The Communications Coordinator serves to output information to the congregation of and community surrounding Skyland United Methodist Church. The Communications Coordinator will manage the gathering of information and creation of the church newsletter, including a printed copy and a digital copy.  In addition, this position will be asked to create a social media presence for the church, as well as assist the church with other communications projects, as time allows.
Principally, the purpose of this role is to help tell our stories through various forms of media and provide expertise on effective communication of ministry-specific messages.  The Communications Coordinator works along with the Communication Committee and Pastors to form the Creative Team to oversee and strategize about church-wide communication in a variety of ways.

Supervision

This position reports to the Trustees with supervision being provided by the pastors and communications committee chair.
 

Type

This is a part-time / contractor position with no benefits.
 

Hours

This position is approved for ten hours per week with hours being worked as an independent contractor, taking great care to see that church deadlines are met.

 

Responsibilities – including but not limited to:

  • Perform a monthly comb-through of website for outdated information/broken links/etc.
  • Participate in social media forums on behalf of Skyland United Methodist Church (SUMC)
  • Consult with ministry leaders and groups with web page updates, blogs, and the use of other social media, as requested.
  • Oversee general website content and maintenance and, when necessary, the construction of, or updating of, the website
  • Production of weekly electronic newsletter, which should also be printable as a paper newsletter
  • Maintain consistency in theme (LOVE, GROW, SERVE)
  • Design and produce seasonal Program Guides for various ministries
  • Prepare special media projects in support of church events
    • Event fliers, posters, tickets, invitations, brochures etc.
  • Design advertising and outreach material
 

Essential Qualifications

  • Proficient in website – plug and play platforms
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Publisher, Power point
  • Proficient in Constant Contact (email marketing)
  • Proficient in Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Ability to set and adhere to deadlines
  • Project management skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly detailed and organized
  • Adhere to Safe Sanctuary policies if presence around children at SUMC
  • Respectful, Punctual, Pleasant, and Courteous

 

Preferred Qualifications

Christian believer
Passionate about communicating a mission to church members and the community
