Senior Director of Worship and Arts
This position has musical and logistical responsibility for traditional worship
services and the music and arts programs at Christ UMC, as well as shared
responsibility for contemporary worship services. Specifically, current duties
include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Coordinate with Pastors, Organist, Contemporary Worship Director and other
staff to oversee all aspects of weekly worship and seasonal services, including
but not limited to:
○ worship design and order
○ service music (hymns, anthems, voluntaries, etc.)
○ technical considerations for online worship services
○ recruiting, equipping, and communicating with volunteers (ushers,
acolytes, altar guild, communion prep/service, etc.)
● Responsible for choral music ensembles, which currently includes Chancel
Choir (adults) and Youth Choir (6th-12th grade), as well as seasonal groups
such as Men’s Chorus and Gallery Choir (Youth Choir alumna at Christmas)
● Responsible for oversight of children’s music program including:
○ Music for children during the Sunday School hour
○ Music for monthly Chapel Time for CEC Preschool children
○ Re-develop and grow children’s music program as appropriate, including
reviving children’s choir(s) and chime ensemble
● Responsible for directing or overseeing all handbell choirs, which currently
includes Carillon Ringers (currently Monday pm rehearsal) and Celebration
Ringers (currently Monday am rehearsal), as well as seasonal youth bell choir
● Coordinate and conduct major works and church-wide arts events, including
production of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde on a 5-6 year cycle
● Recruit/hire, coordinate and conduct volunteers and professional
instrumentalists for worship services and special events as needed
● Manage administrative duties such as budgeting, music library maintenance,
communication with musical groups, bulletin preparation in coordination with
other staff and volunteers
● Coordinate special seasonal worship services and events including Advent and
Christmas services and programs, Holy Week services, and other services and
events throughout the year
● Provide staff oversight for Worship and Arts Committee
● Lead weekly and seasonal staff worship team meetings to ensure cohesive
worship services
● Attend staff meetings and other relevant administrative meetings
The Senior Director of Worship and Arts has the responsibility for supervising
other members of the worship arts staff, including full or part-time staff.
Supervisory responsibilities are subject to change, depending on the needs of the
Church and the needs of the other staff members.
