Campus Minister and Director of the Winston-Salem Wesley Foundation

The Board of the Winston-Salem Wesley Foundation is conducting a search for the position of Campus Minister and Director (hereafter referred to as Campus Minister) who will carry out the responsibilities of Word, Sacrament, Order, and Service at the three academic institutions that we serve:   Wake Forest University, Salem College and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (all located in Winston-Salem, NC).  A detailed job description that includes some background on the institutions and the history of the position is provided.  Qualified applicants are invited to prayerfully consider the position through the Summer and early Fall.  Initial applications are due by 15 October 2021.
 
Preferred qualifications: (1) Ordination as an Elder in the United Methodist Church; (2) five years of ministerial experience; (3) a commitment to campus ministry; (4) experience in mentoring/counseling.

Echols at rtechols@me.com or to 1030 Wellington Road, Winston-Salem, NC. 27106.  Applications should be received or be postmarked by 15 October 2021.  The initial application should include the following three items: (1) A detailed resume or CV; (2) Written responses to four prompts/questions (see below); and (3) A list of three references from a diversity of relationships with the candidate (examples:  a student or mentee, a supervisor or mentor and a colleague).  The list of references should include mail, email, and phone contact information.
 
Questions for the Initial Application:  Preference will be given by the selection committee to candidates who answer these questions fully (suggested minimum of 500 words per question/prompt).  [1]. What is your understanding of campus ministry’s relationship to the church?  [2]. Describe campus ministry’s role in the faith development of students.  [3].  What is the role of campus ministry within the culture of a modern college campus?  [4]. What about you makes you a particularly good fit for the position (specifically in the context of the qualifications listed in the Job Description)?
 
Outline of Search:  Top candidates from the initial application will be notified by 08 November and will be invited to answer additional questions and to interview by Zoom with the selection committee.  Final candidates will be invited to interview by Zoom or in-person (on-campus) in early January 2022 with a selection date expected by 01 February 2022.  Applicants will be notified of receipt of their application and status with respect to the job search at each step of the process.  Salary for the position will be based on salary levels for an ordained minister in the Western North Carolina UMC and will depend on the candidate's number of years of experience.  The starting date for the position is negotiable, but the new Campus Minister must start by 01 July 2022.
