Director of Housekeeping

Essential Functions:

  • Must possess excellent hospitality skills and a strong desire to foster an attitude of Christian hospitality to “exceed guest expectations”.

  • Responsible for the overall training, planning, organization, development and direction of the housekeeping, custodial and laundry departments and functions in accordance with Federal, State and Local standards and guidelines.

  • Responsible for the supervision of staff which involves direct and indirect responsibilities for developing departmental policies and procedures, scheduling, training, delegating work assignments, motivating, creating and maintaining a positive work environment and routine performance appraisals. Regularly evaluate safe work practices and document in performance appraisals.

  • Perform routine inspections of all guest rooms to ensure the highest quality of hospitality standards are met for every guest.

  • Regularly communicates with housekeeping, custodial and laundry supervisors with an emphasis on the Lake Junaluska goal of exceeding guest expectations. And, ensure work is performed within compliance of all policies, procedures and standards with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

  • Responsible for the accountability of housekeeping, custodial, and laundry staff in the fulfillment of daily assignments, quality of work, completing work timely and within budget.

  • Responsible for the requisitioning of all housekeeping, custodial and laundry supplies and equipment. Maintain adequate levels of inventory to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for LJA guests.

  • Responsible for maintaining the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. to include, training staff on proper equipment use and maintenance.

  • Responsible for developing and positively managing a recommended budget to meet staffing, equipment and supply needs for the overall departmental budgets.

  • Process all payables efficiently and timely in accordance with accounting policy.

  • Responsible for housekeeping’s overall compliance of the LJA Human Resources Policy and Procedures Manual.

  • Actively attend and participate in Leadership Team Meetings as assigned.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and/or a minimum of 1–4 years relevant experience in hotel hospitality as it relates to housekeeping.

  • Must have related housekeeping management/supervisory experience, with a proven working background in productivity, training, planning, design and implementation. 

  • Hospitality experience strongly desired.

  • Must have demonstrated good communication skills, client relation skills, and a commitment to providing responsive and conscientious customer service.

  • Must be detail oriented with knowledge of a wide variety of software systems, word processing and spreadsheet applications, prefer Microsoft Suite.

  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs, multiple task demands, and work structures.

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, emails, and memos.

  • Ability to effectively present job related information upon request to customers, clients, and employees of the organization. 

  • Proven computer skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills are required.  

  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of customer, clients and employee questions. 

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formats.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, MSD sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license 

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include; nights/weekends/holidays as required

Working conditions

  • Indoor/outdoor environment with adequate ventilation and exposure to changing weather conditions. 

  • Moderate physical activity performing strenuous and non-strenuous activities with moderate to loud noise. 

  • Well-lighted, heated and air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

  • Ability to coordinate work, occasionally moves about, able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk to and hear staff and customer requests,  and also lifts or otherwise move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

  • Must have adequate vision to carry out daily activities.

  • Must be able to see close and at a distance (20 feet or more), good peripheral vision.

  • Hours: Monday through Sunday, days/weekends/nights/holidays as required.
