Children's Ministry Program Leader (Part-time)



JOB TITLE: Children’s Ministry Program Leader, Christ United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC

REPORTS TO: Pastor to Families with Children and Youth

HOURS: Hours will vary from week to week. This position is expected to work an average of 
20 hours per week, depending on the needs of the Children's Ministry.

MINISTRY AREA: Children’s Ministry/ Discipleship 

RESPONSIBILITIES: All responsibilities are subject to change, based upon the needs of the Church.
Further expectations and responsibilities are outlined in the Employee Handbook. 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provide spiritual leadership in collaboration with the Family Pastor to ministries 
for families of children ages infant - 5th grade, including, but not limited to:

  • Sunday School/Weekday Groups
  • 345 Group (3rd-5th grades)
  • Seasonal Activities (Day Camp, VBS, Resident Camp, seminars, etc)
  • Children’s Worship (in collaboration with pastoral staff)
  • Missional Engagement opportunities 

    --  Collaborate with the Family Pastor to continually assess Children’s Ministries, adding, changing, and updating as needed.
  • Ensure that all children’s ministries operate in accordance with United Methodist doctrine and practices, are effective in the formation of children as disciples, and function in concert with the broader ministries of Christ Church.
  • Recruit, develop, and equip lay servant leaders to be a part of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of children's ministries.
  • In conjunction with the Ministry Lead Team, work with the Church Family Life Team to plan and implement seasonal opportunities for all ages.
  • The Family Pastor will be the primary staff person responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of all childcare workers. The Program Assistant will be responsible for scheduling of workers, and checking in with them.
  • Work with the Family Pastor to ensure that all ministries operate in accordance with established Safe Sanctuaries policies and that such policies are regularly evaluated and improved, if needed.
  • At the discretion of the Family Pastor, assist with collaboration with CEC and Kids Ahead leaders to create connections between those ministries and the broader children’s ministries of Christ Church. Create opportunities to build relationships with CEC and Kids Ahead families.
  • Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings, as needed
  • Work with Children’s & Youth Administrative Assistant for administrative needs weekly.

QUALIFICATIONS: The qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Experience in children’s ministry within the local church
  • Desire to learn and grow in ministry through webinars, podcasts, etc.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn/ Familiarity with United Methodist doctrine.
  • Strong organization, recruiting and communication skills.

COMPENSATION: Compensation is based upon relevant education and experience and set by the Staff Parish Relations Committee of Christ UMC, additional benefits are detailed in the Christ UMC Employee Handbook.
