Director of Youth Ministries

What is the task?
The vision for our youth ministry is simple: to equip students to follow Jesus long after they leave our church. The way we go about living into this vision is also simple: create a safe space for students to enter into relationship with Jesus. The heart of what we do is on Sunday nights, where we gather for a shared meal, spend time being taught Scripture in relevant and interactive ways, and then discuss these teachings and care for one another’s souls in small group. We have found the driver of our ministry to be the authentic and consistent relationships between students and leaders, whether through the small groups mentioned, one on two discipleship, retreats, or fun outings. In an area where affluence is high and opportunities are great, we have attempted to simplify our ministry to fill what our students most need: a consistent place of belonging.
Why come to Denver?
The core of Denver UMC is steeped in values of hospitality, family, service, and discipleship. When you become a part of this faith community, you will be received warmly and with open arms (expect quite a few meals as well). The church itself is thriving, welcoming in new families, teens, and children on a consistent basis. The youth ministry in particular has a rich tradition of gathering students. There is a solid foundation of 70-80 students who are active participants and a team of 15-20 adult small group leaders and volunteers who are ready to help you carry out your ministry. You will be supported!
Challenges
Personal Discipleship - Many of you may very well know that finding space for your own soul to be fed is a challenge in youth ministry. We can confidently claim there are places for you to be poured into, whether through small groups for your age, willing mentors within the church, and a staff who will check in with you regularly. There are people to walk alongside.
Conclusion
This position allows for the unique gifts and call of the leader to be lived out. If personal discipleship is your passion, there is space to connect with and meet weekly with students. If your heart is for mission, there is a budding desire in our church to find ways to serve our community. If you love to teach students, there are ample opportunities to do so. We believe the vision God has laid on this youth ministry can be lived out by any shepherd who believes in the vision and has a willingness to share their unique gifts and passions with these students.
