Position: Director of Preschool Ministry
Part-time ministerial staff position
Reports to: Supervisor
Position Summary: This position works closely with other age-level ministries to foster spiritual development of children ages Birth-Kindergarten. The Director of Preschool Ministry has overall responsibility for ensuring that the curriculum, programs, and events for these children embrace and convey the mission, vision and values of FUMC. The position has considerable independence within the areas described below. The Supervisor and Staff Parish Relations Committee will conduct an annual evaluation and provide support throughout the year as needed.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate, schedule, and supervise the paid and volunteer caregivers on Sunday mornings, during special worship services, and throughout the week when childcare is offered for church activities
- Prepare and manage budget to support paid staff needs –
- Annually review, update and publicize the Childcare Ministry Policy
- Update and maintain current, electronic information on each child who has received care in the preschool department
- Recruit and train Children’s Sunday school teachers and substitutes for implementation of curriculum
- Develop, plan, and promote events that facilitate the spiritual development of children Birth-Kindergarten (past events include VBS)
- Provide Wednesday evening programs for children which will enhance their faith education
- Communicate with the congregation regularly regarding children’s preschool ministry, programs, and life changing stories
- Regularly evaluate curriculum to ensure it is meeting the needs of FUMC preschool children
- Co-coordinate Sunday morning children’s celebration with Director of Children’s Ministry
- Support and communicate with parents/guardians
- Reach out to existing church families and new families to promote FUMC Children’s ministry
- Lead New Birth ministry
- Collaborate with the Weekday School Director regarding joint opportunities for ministry and family outreach
- Assist the Director of Children’s Ministry in planning and coordinating the Family Christmas Eve service
- Fulfill safe sanctuary guidelines in the Children’s ministry department
- Collaborate with the Director of Youth Ministries, Children’s Ministry, Pre-school Director to ensure consistency with programs, ministries, and communication to families
- Attend weekly staff meetings, ministerial team meetings, planning retreats, and additional meetings as requested
- Serve on the Weekday School Committee
- Flexibility in accepting additional responsibilities
- Take part in continuing education annually
Minimum Qualifications:
- College degree or coursework in a related field preferred
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Proven experience in working with children including a basic understanding of child development
- Clear understanding of the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children
- Must have a passion for children and their families
- Willingness to embrace the core values of FUMC and convey those values through FUMC children’s programs
- Ability to be flexible and a team player
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work effectively with congregations, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers
- Proficient in social media platforms and Microsoft Office
