Position: Director of Children’s Ministry
Part-time ministerial staff position
Reports to: Supervisor
 
Position Summary:  This position works closely with other age-level ministries to foster spiritual development of children ages in 1st-5th grade. The Director of Children’s Ministry has overall responsibility for ensuring that the curriculum, programs, and events for these children embrace and convey the mission, vision and values of FUMC. The position has considerable independence within the areas described below. The Supervisor and Staff Parish Relations Committee will conduct an annual evaluation and provide support throughout the year as needed.
 
Specific Responsibilities Include:
 

  • Recruit and train Children’s Sunday school teachers and substitutes
  • Fully implement Sunday morning curriculum (currently, Orange)
  • Develop, plan, and promote events that facilitate the spiritual development of children (past examples include--VBS, Bible presentation, etc.)
  • Provide Wednesday evening programs for children that will enhance their faith education
  • Communicate with the congregation regularly regarding children’s ministry vision, programs, and life changing stories
  • Regularly evaluate curriculum to ensure it is meeting the needs of FUMC children
  • Co-coordinate Children’s Celebration with Director of Preschool Ministry
  • Support and communicate with parents/guardians
  • Oversee outreach events for FUMC children and the greater community (past examples include--Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.)
  • Fulfill safe sanctuary guidelines in the Children’s ministry department
  • Plan and coordinate the Family Worship Service on Christmas Eve (including Christmas Camp)
  • Collaborate with the Director of Youth Ministries, Preschool Ministry, and Preschool Director to ensure consistency of  programs, communication and ministries to families
  • Reach out to existing church families and new families to promote FUMC Children’s ministry
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, ministerial team meetings, planning retreats, and additional meetings as requested
  • Flexibility in accepting additional responsibilities
  • Take part in continuing education annually
  • Provide input to help develop the annual budget
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • College degree or coursework in a related field preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Proven experience in working with children including a basic understanding of child development
  • Clear understanding of the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Must have a passion for children and their families
  • Willingness to embrace the core values of FUMC and convey those values through FUMC children’s programs
  • Ability to be flexible and a team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with congregations, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers
  • Proficient in social media platforms and Microsoft Office
