Traditional Music and Arts Director

St. Andrew’s UMC is seeking a part-time Traditional Music and Arts Director who is called by God to share your love of music and passion for His church by leading the music ministry.  This position will use your passions to help St. Andrew’s reach our goals to achieve Intentional Discipleship, Hospitality and Being the Light of the Neighborhood.   

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated experience in growing, developing & directing adult choirs and hand bell choirs as well as other music ministries (children choirs and special musical events). The position is responsible for the organization and administration of all Traditional church music and liturgical arts activities.  This includes directing several choirs, supervising other choirs and liturgical arts groups, supervising volunteer choir leadership, planning and implementing vocal and instrumental worship service music, assisting other paid musicians, and providing spiritual leadership for volunteer church musicians.  The Traditional Music and Arts Director will collaborate with our Pastors and Contemporary Music and Arts Director toward our goal of offering a wide range of inspirational music experiences. 

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic leader who can work effectively as part of a team, and who embraces various musical genres in a variety of worship styles.  This position will work closely with the pastor, staff and Worship Committee to determine goals for the Traditional service music and arts ministry.  This position will collaborate with our Director of Contemporary Music and Arts to also support Music & Drama Camp, music opportunities with children's ministry, and overseeing the church music and liturgical arts budget.

About our Church – Established in 1959, St. Andrew’s UMC is located in the Montclaire neighborhood in Charlotte, which is near the South Boulevard corridor and Lynx blue line.  In addition to three Sunday services, our church facility is open all week for activities from multiple non-profit organizations serving the South Boulevard area.  There are several opportunities throughout the week that involve traditional music ministry.  To support our music ministry the church facility includes a dedicated Choir rehearsal room, adjacent office, dedicated Music Library, hand bell choir room, and Instrument Storage Room.

Position Structure and Compensation:  Part Time, minimum of 16 hours per week, Year-Round position with salary commensurate with experience and abilities 

Skills and Job Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree preferred; appropriate musical or theological studies/degree preferred
- Minimum five years of relevant experience working in music/worship leadership
- Proven demonstrations of successfully leading, motivating and coordinating worship and choirs

Accountability: Guidance for this position will be offered by the Senior Pastor 

Position Goal: To develop and lead the Traditional worship music ministry in consultation with Pastors and other music ministry team members in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and UMC Christian theology.
