Come & See Missional Spiritual Direction Event
Anam Cara is a two-year missional spiritual direction training program that, along with traditional preparation for one-on-one spiritual direction, moves participants toward a posture of spiritual direction within the wider context of the neighborhood of one’s work, travel, and life in community. The name Anam Cara comes from the ancient Celtic tradition, meaning “soul friend,” one who walks alongside. Soul friends, or spiritual companions, have long listened and discerned how the Holy Spirit is moving in life of a person, in the church and in the world.
We believe that God is active in the world and in the soul of every person. Noticing God’s activity is the first step in missional spirituality. Learning to walk and work in harmony with God – who, in Jesus, moved into the neighborhood, is the next step on the journey. Anam Cara works to prepare participants to move with the Holy Spirit themselves while accompanying others on the journey.
Over the course of two years, Anam Cara takes the director-in-training through six retreats which offer instruction, small group experiential learning, readings, spaces for worship and prayerful solitude. Between the retreats, participants will engage in online course work and home-based practice which hones the essential skills of active listening and discernment to recognize the hand of God in our own and others’ narratives. We will learn to live into the Great Story of God, and begin to see how all of our stories find their place in God’s divine narrative.(More)
