Family Ministries Director
Position Description: The Family Ministries Director (FMD) will create and implement a family ministry program that offers a relevant, safe, and fun environment for children, youth, and families to grow in their faith. We are seeking a leader who is able to create and own the vision for our children, youth and family ministries, in collaboration with our pastors, that supports our missional priorities. This position will recruit, develop, equip, and guide a ministry team of staff and volunteers in providing high quality discipleship, outreach, spiritual formation, leadership development, worship, and mission opportunities for children, youth, and their families. This position reports directly to the WF Campus Senior Pastor and is overseen by the Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).
1. Qualifications:

Deep personal faith in Jesus Christ that is growing and sustained by spiritual practices.

An advocate for United Methodist theology and beliefs along with common Christian values of acceptance, care, and love.

Masters in Christian Education, Mdiv, or Masters of Art in Christian Practice. In addition, a minimum of 3 years experience in a similar church position.

A leader with a strong desire to demonstrate and communicate the importance of family ministry as the platform for spiritual formation in the home.

A team player who works collaboratively with volunteers and church staff to create a dynamic family ministry program supporting the church’s mission.

Demonstrates the ability to recruit, manage and empower our gifted volunteers.

Highly adaptable in pursuing strategic opportunities to grow ministries.
2. Skills:

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Effective communication skills with children, youth, parents, volunteers and church staff.

Excellent planning, coordination, and execution of programs.

Strong computer and social media skills. Knowledge of Google Docs, Word and Excel helpful.
3. Responsibilities:
Children and Family Ministry
-
Build an active Children’s Council to create a sustainable vision for our children and family ministry.
-
Create discipleship goals for our children’s ministry and work with the families ministries assistant to select curriculum supporting the vision.

Equip parents to be partners in their children’s discipleship by sharing resources that build faith in family units.

Develop programs and seek ways to grow these programs, the connections between participants and their faith development.

Seek to coordinate all ministry offerings where families can participate together as much as possible (ex: small groups scheduled to meet at the same time as children programs)

Plan curriculum around similar scripture / topics so that families are learning similar lessons and can discuss together in their home.

Promote service and outreach through age-appropriate service projects.

Seek church-wide mission efforts that promote intergenerational ministry.

Co-lead the Children’s Ministry Team.

Supervise the Family Ministries Assistant Director (FMA), nursery staff, and children and ministry volunteers.

Be the staff liaison with the Little Chapel Preschool and serve on their Advisory Board.
Youth Ministry
-
Coordinate the youth program between Wake Forest UMC and Village Church Rolesville.

Organize weekly youth group meetings. Lead meetings and empower/equip youth counselors to lead meetings through programs and activities that teach and strengthen spiritual formation.

Provide general direction, guidance and vision for Christian education such as Sunday school, youth fellowship, Bible studies, and special programs, at times coordinating with other committees.

Seek age appropriate missions and service projects. Attend youth events and retreats.

Create a warm, safe, inclusive environment where youth know they are loved and supported by all.

Recruit and provide training for youth counselors.

Develop and empower youth leadership through organizing regular youth council meetings.
Other Responsibilities
-
Represent Family Ministries as a part of the church staff, Church Council and in other areas of the church and community.

Develop and oversee budgets for the children’s, youth, and family ministry programs.

Maintain regular office hours, attend staff meetings and other relevant church committees.

Manage the children and youth spaces of the church, ensuring they are safe.

Coordinate schedules and volunteers. Screen and ensure volunteers follow Safe Sanctuary Guidelines.

Conduct annual Safe Sanctuaries Training.
-
Seek out Continuing Education opportunities to learn about new programs, curriculum as well as meeting with other area youth directors for new ideas.

Assist with other items as needed.
3. Position:
-
The Family Ministries Director position is a full time, salaried (exempt) position and the salary is based upon a projected 40 hours per week. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

This position has 4-weeks of vacation per year, including 4 Sundays, excluding Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve and other high attendance Sundays in the church year.

This position is eligible to participate in the pension program after 12 months of service and eligible to participate in our health insurance program upon employment.

The position does not require any ordination status.
Pay: $45,000 – $48,000 per year based on experience.
