Creation Care WNCC Monthly Ideas Exchange Via Zoom
How can we help you develop a greater ethic of Creation Care in your church and home? Join Rev. Jonathan Brake, United Methodist EarthKeeper, Ordained Elder, and Pastor at Mt. Pleasant UMC, Sherrills Ford, along with other members of the conference Creation Care Ministry leadership team, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm via Zoom to discuss different topics related to such efforts. During each one-hour interactive session, we will share thoughts and ideas about the various topics and work together to find ways to grow our ethic of creation care specific to our individual situations. To register for any, or all, session(s), email CreationCareWNCC@gmail.com and indicate which session(s) you wish to attend.
Topics by session are as follows:
July 19th – How do we determine a personal or congregational “Carbon Footprint” or “Carbon Shadow”?
August 16th – How do we reach younger generations through Creation Care and Creation Justice ministries?
September 20th – How do we talk about Climate Change and Creation Justice in our church ministries?
October 18th – How do we talk about “Eco-Grief” in the church?
November 15th – How can we “Green the Holidays” for family, congregation, and more?
For the July 19th session, we will talk about what it actually means to try to achieve “Net Zero Emissions”, and how determining our “Carbon Footprint” and our “Carbon Shadow” – two very different concepts – are important first steps in moving towards that goal. After all, we have to know where we stand currently in order to see the areas where change is needed and where it will have the greatest impact on our emissions. We will share various tools and resources that are available to help with these determinations, as well as those that will help us determine how to begin making the necessary changes in the higher-impact areas.
To register, email CreationCareWNCC@gmail.com. We look forward to sharing ideas and talking with you about Creation Care!
