2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Service
The Western North Carolina Conference will host its annual Martin Luther King Commemoration Service on January 15, 2022, from 10-11:30 a.m. via Zoom, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live. The theme of the event is: Infinite Hope: Honoring the Legacy - Advancing the Vision - Fulfilling the Vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's keynote speaker will be the Rev. Nelson Johnson, Executive Director of the Beloved Community Center in Greensboro, NC.
 

Bishop Ken Carter to Give Keynote Address to Open Week of Winter Leadership Webinars
Bishop Carter will give the keynote address on the opening night of the weeklong Winter Leadership Training webinar series. Bishop Carter's address, titled "Our Pathways to the Post-Covid Church," will explore four interrelated pathways to the Post-Covid Church, we we are called to journey together. All laity and clergy are invited to participate Sunday, January 23, at 5 p.m. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers following the presentation.

Clergy Leadership Webinar with Author, Tod Bolsinger
On Tuesday, March 15 at 12 p.m., Bishop Carter will moderate a webinar led by Tod Bolsinger on his book Tempered Resilience: How Leaders are Formed in the Crucible of Change. The webinar is open to all clergy in the Western NC and Florida Conferences.
WNCC Discount for Amplify Media
The conference has negotiated a partnership with the United Methodist Publishing House (UMPH) to offer their online video platform, Amplify Media, at a deeply discounted rate for all churches/charges in the Western NC Conference.
Navigating Uncharted Waters
Navigating Uncharted Waters is a ministry leader’s guide designed to help lead congregations through our current times in which the future course for our churches may be unsure, even unsteady, with difficult decisions ahead. This free resource from Plowpoint Ministries offers lectionary-based resources for worship and holy conversation. 

 

Spiritual Renewal Grant for Clergy and Laity in Ministry
This season of ministry has been hard on leaders and many are exhausted, discouraged, and in need of time away. The WNCC Leadership Development Team wants to help nurture your own spiritual growth, as you nurture the spiritual walks of others.
Stained glass finds new life as churches merge
The windows at Mouzon/Selwyn UMC have illuminated 80 years of baptisms, weddings, funerals and worship services. As the building comes down, these beautiful works of art will live on.

Sabbath Life 2022
Sabbath Life is an ecumenical invitation to clergy and ministry professionals to practice the rhythms of Sabbath, stepping away from our daily lives to delight in God, creation, and each other. In 2022 we are offering a variety of locations as well as 4-month, 6-month, and 10-month programs.

 

Fuel Your Ministry with a Reynolds Grant
The Reynolds Ministry Fund supports initiatives that invite new believers into a relationship with Christ. You are invited to apply for grants for the 2022 cycle. In 2021, the Reynolds Ministries Team awarded nearly $500,000 to more than two dozen ministries.

  • The conference has partnered with Edible Theology to offer their Bake with the Bible curriculum at a discounted price of only $25 when you use THIS LINK! Bake with The Bible is a journey through the Gospels through the lens of bread. In this six-lesson program, your children and youth will discover the nearness of God, who meets us on our hands and in our bellies via bread.
     
  • Is your church looking for new ways to connect with its neighbors? In this one-hour webinar, we'll be joined by Bishop Ken Carter and Rev. Dr. Stephanie Hand to learn about what Fresh Expressions is and why every church should consider starting one.
     
  • As we begin 2022, Bishop Ken Carter offers a spiritual practice for the new year. We hope this prayer meditation helps you center yourself in grace, repentance, confession, faith and love in this new year.
     
  • Spring dates for the Antiracism Ethics Trainings are now available. Antiracism Ethics Training is the Clergy Ethics Training for the new quadrennium through June 2024, and thus it is mandatory for all clergy in the Western North Carolina Conference.
     
  • In 2021, 47 students in Western North Carolina received a total of $94,441 in scholarship funds from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Congratulations to all recipients!

The Conference Office of Treasury Services and the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina will offer a certificate training program for United Methodist volunteer treasurers within our conference. Dr. Mark King and Rev. David Snipes will lead the four-session program on March 5,12, April 23 and 30, from 10 am – 3 pm.
