Position Title: Director of Children and Family Ministries (FT - 30 hours per week),
Responsible To: Pastor for day-to-day operations. Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) for fulfilling responsibilities defined in the job description, defining goals, evaluation and communication of concerns related to the performance of the position.
Position Summary: Provides leadership and strategic vision and acts as key communicator for our Children and Family Ministries. This includes developing, implementing and executing programs and providing direction to staff and volunteers connected with Children and Family Ministries, working directly with the Children’s Council, and shepherding children from birth through fifth grade while providing discipleship essentials for families. This position delivers visibly with regular presence on Sunday Mornings, Wednesday evenings and for all children’s programs.

- A bachelor’s degree and experience and training in the field of Christian Education and/or Early Childhood Education is strongly preferred.
- Must have a TB test.
- Must maintain Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
The Director of Children and Family Ministries is responsible for the following:
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of a comprehensive Christian Education ministry for children.
- Communicate children’s ministry events through churchwide publications as well as weekly communication throughout the individual ministry area.
- Identify, nurture, and equip laity for leadership and service within these ministries.
- Foster the healthy physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of all children in Children’s Ministry (infant – 5th grade).
- Prepare and manage a budget for these ministries.
- Create special events for children and families.
- Attend Staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, train, evaluate and terminate churchwide childcare personnel in accordance with the Church policies in partnership with the Childcare Coordinator.
- Responsible for the implementation of the Child Protection Plan in relationship to volunteers and staff for children.
- Provide childcare when hired staff is unavailable.
- Other duties as assigned by SPRC, the pastoral staff, or supervisor.
- Recruit and support teachers and assist parents with scheduling, lesson preparation and activities.
- Distribute curriculum monthly.
- Maintain adequate and organized supplies for Sunday School use.
- Serve as an additional teacher as needed.
- Work with Children’s Council to plan and coordinate special events (such as family nights and outreach events).
- Coordinate events with church calendar.
- Assist with reservations, scheduling, supply purchases, registration (i.e. venues, volunteers, vendors, research, supplies).
- Attend scheduled events and assist with set up, involvement and breakdown.
- Attend Children’s Council, Church Council and Staff meetings.
- Maintain meeting notes and minutes.
- Maintain covenant forms, childcare schedules and Sunday School attendance records.
- Be responsible for the implementation of the Child Protection Plan in relationship to volunteers and staff for children.
- Support the well-being of our children and families.
- Execute key programming for the benefit of parents – “Parenting in the Pew”, Junior MinTs training, sex education, and other parent education - and provide additional resources to support these.
- Mentor and nurture parent connections through relationship building and becoming a trustworthy confidant.
- Provide baptism books on request.
- Identify and coordinate visitation and at-risk follow up needs.
- Provide regular and consistent communication, correspondence and follow up with church families.
- Utilize technical skills to enhance communication tools such as newsletter, website, calendar and email.
- Coordinate with the Communications Coordinator to ensure up-to-date information is publicized through Providence This Week and the church website.
- The performance of each employee shall be appraised annually in writing or more frequently as deemed necessary.
- The performance evaluation is intended as a means of measuring and enhancing individual performance, fostering development and career growth, determining merit increases, and meeting requirements for documenting individual performance.
- In addition to the regular performance evaluations described above, the supervisor may conduct special written performance evaluations at any time to inform an employee of performance or disciplinary problems.
