Position Title: Director of Children's Ministries
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Children's Ministries is responsible for ministering to and with children (infants through 5th grade) in relation to the church education program. This is accomplished through the children growing in:
1) obedience to the Lord, their parents/caregivers and teachers,
2) gaining wisdom in God's Holy Word and learning how to apply it to their lives today,
3) and developing love for our Heavenly Father, Jesus, family, friends, and others.

Sunday Activities

  • Sunday School - Recruit volunteer teachers/assistants for all classes, provide training, order curriculum, and purchase supplies. Confirm church meets Safe Sanctuary policies. Provide additional help in classrooms if needed.
  • Children's Church - Recruit volunteers, coordinate schedule, provide lessons and resources. Teach when needed.
  • Children's Sermons - Recruit and coordinate volunteers. Provide Sunday scripture to volunteers early in the week so they can plan accordingly.
  • Nursery - Responsible for all paid and volunteer nursery workers (hiring, firing, recording of hours, and providing paychecks). Weekday Activities
Wednesday Night Children's Activities - Responsible for selecting Bible activities and resources for children in the Wednesday night program (before or after children's choir practice). Coordinate and collaborate ideas with the Music Director.
  • Junior Whobodies - Responsible for providing Jr. Who counselors and serve as a leader. Work closely with the youth director to coordinate dates/programs, select curriculum, and resources. " Worship bags - Keep worship bags organized leading into the Sanctuary.
  • Serve on the Weekday Preschool Committee to represent the church and to keep good relations between the church volunteers and Weekday teachers who share the same classrooms.
  • Participate in Christian education events and continuing education opportunities.
Seasonal Events
  • Vacation Bible School- Responsible for recruiting, planning, training, ordering and purchasing supplies, implementing plans and helping the directors in any way possible. "
  • Summer Day Camp- Responsible for planning with two other Methodist churches, recruiting leaders, shopping for supplies, preparing lesson plans and serving as a leader.
  • Work to schedule, plan, and implement the seasonal program events of: Advent Festival, Easter Egg Hunt, Backpack Blessing, Trunk or Treat, Created by God and others.
Education/Training: Minimum: Bachelor's Degree is required with 3 years related Church youth ministry experience or 6 years significant and directly-related Church youth ministry experience with no degree.

Knowledge/Skills: Child development background. Computer skills in Word, Excel, etc.

  • Be a team player by being supportive of decisions made by supervisor and leadership.
  • Be prompt in returning phone calls, voice mails, emails, and texts.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Social media, emails, and texts - Employees are a reflection of the church that employs them, and that follows them both inside and outside of work. When deciding what to share on social media, employees should use common sense, respect the relationship with their employer and be careful of the image of themselves that is being shared including online, emails and texts.
  • Attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Be a devoted Christian, and a role model for children and youth.
