SUMC is located in the center of Sparta, a beautiful mountain town, within walking distance of the county’s largest K-8 school and only High School. In the last three years, SUMC has built a thriving youth ministry that does not function as a youth group, but as a ministry with the goal of reaching teens who do not attend church and establishing relationships that ultimately lead to discipleship. Fusion’s program includes an after school program and a weekly Wednesday night event with games, food, and discussions about life and the Bible. This year we have made contact with over 100 teenagers in the community and regularly see many of them throughout the week. We would like the Fusion program to continue to grow and expand, adding more days to the after school program and increasing involvement in the local schools. Current outreach ministries include a weekly free meal to the community, volleyball program for senior citizens, “White Flag” shelter for cold nights, summer camps, and other events. The ideal candidate should be comfortable connecting with people of all ages, and be willing to step in when something needs to get done. An ability to work with people is essential, and a positive, joyful attitude is expected. Discipleship and humility are key to this position, and the candidate must be a person who is willing to train and equip others to do ministry while serving in a way that always points back to God. In addition to partnering with parents, training and equipping volunteers, and steering a Spirit-led youth program of mission, ministry, and outreach, this Director will join an enthusiastic staff and volunteer team committed to building God’s Kingdom in our community.
