Finding affordable housing is almost impossible. It should not be this way. You can help families find a home – from your home!
Pisgah Legal Services, a local nonprofit that provides free civil legal aid to the most vulnerable people in Western North Carolina, invites you to join our newest volunteer program. Created by the social work team, House Hunters gives volunteers a chance to help neighbors find a home. Volunteers choose a few affordable properties to call – and record availability in a simple Google Form. Members of the social work team will share this information with clients and assist with the application process. Why is this needed? Sometimes our clients are living in terrible conditions, or their home is being sold, or they must leave for safety reasons. Volunteers will receive training and support. You are invited to attend a training on Tuesday, August 17 at 6:30pm or Wednesday, August 18 at noon. Can’t make one of these? No problem. We will offer others and are glad to train volunteers individually. We anticipate volunteers making calls weekly or every other week. To find out more, contact Sandy at 828-210-3459 or sandy@pisgahlegal.org.
Pisgah Legal Services can provide programs on a variety of issues to church groups. Groups interested in having a program giving a general overview of services, or a program specific to PLS areas of service including Housing, Domestic Violence, Immigration, Elder law and Health Justice can reach out to Sandy.
