The mission of The United Methodist Church is to “follow Jesus and make disciples for the transformation of the world.”  One of the frustrations uttered on more than one occasion by both religious and non-religious people is that many churches look too much like the world around them, as if Christians do not reflect the transformational power of the gospel.

One answer to this dilemma is found in the opening phrases of our church’s mission.  We need to follow Jesus, more nearly, and to somehow go more deeply in the making of disciples, including discovery of what a disciple is.  If you share a dream of going deeper in the practice of disciple-making, you are invited to a workshop with Steve Manskar, the author of “Disciples Making Disciples.”  Dr. Manskar has been a staff person for UM Discipleship Ministries and we have invited him to the Metro District to introduce a process of Covenant Discipleship – a holistic model for making disciples who engage in practices of worship, devotion, compassion and justice.

The Metro District Vitality Team will host the workshop at University City United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 17 from 9:00 – 3:30 and we are inviting pastors to come with 2-4 leaders from their churches to experience this as a team.
