SMALL CHOIR FESTIVAL!
At last, there is a workshop especially for small choirs! And we do mean small. We define a small choir as less than 20 and as few as 3. On August 20 and 27, the WNC Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, the Smoky Mountain District, and Highlands UMC present our second annual (we hope) Small Choir Festival. This year, our theme is "Singing Through the Year". This is an all-day Saturday event from 9 to 3:30, this year in two locations for your convenience: Long's Chapel UMC near Lake Junaluska (August 20) and First UMC of Hickory (August 27). Cost is $25 per person and includes lunch and a generous packet of music, much of which is reproducible. Deadline to register is August 12 for Long's Chapel and August 19 for Hickory. We can take late registrations, even walk-ins, but we can't guarantee a music packet in time to use at the festival.
The schedule includes two general sessions and two breakout sessions. All the music sung in general sessions is from top publishers, is beautiful and accessible, and has only two or three parts. We are offering three tracks for breakout sessions: one for directors, one for accompanists, and one for singers. There is something here for everyone, so bring your whole choir. Our staff of clinicians all have small choir experience and a heart for small choirs and their issues. We have a lot of "tricks of the trade" that we're happy to share.
