WhoNeedsTheology-Final-SCREENThe 2016 Convocation & Pastors’ School – Who Needs Theology?: Inside and Outside the Church – will bring together Christian leaders of all traditions for two days of lectures, worship, seminars and conversation. This year’s event will draw on the perspectives of leaders in science, medicine, business, and the church as we explore theology as a shaping force in our daily lives. Featured presenters include Elaine A. Heath, dean-elect of Duke Divinity School, Norman Wirzba, professor, Duke Divinity School, and Convocation preacher Brian Combs, founder and pastor, Haywood Street Congregation, Asheville, NC.  Kenneth H. Carter, Jr., resident bishop of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, and Ellen F. Davis, interim dean of Duke Divinity School, will lead panels featuring clergy and other influential leaders spanning multiple professions. Led by scholars and practitioners from Duke and beyond, this event is a cooperative endeavor with the North Carolina and Western North Carolina Conferences of The United Methodist Church. The Convocation also includes alumni gatherings. Register by July 31 to take advantage of early bird pricing. Pastors serving churches eligible for grants from The Duke Endowment, current Divinity School students, and 2016 graduates of the Divinity School can attend the event at a discounted rate.
