A special family style birthday party will be held on Sunday afternoon, May 22, as the World Methodist Museum celebrates 60 years at Lake Junaluska. Cake and lemonade will be served in the Susanna Wesley Garden. The Museum will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., with remarks by one of three featured speakers at 1:30, 2:00 and 2:30.
The program will be an informal one of celebration and fellowship. Bishop Ivan Abrahams’ remarks will include information on his home country of South Africa and Nelson Mandela. The Rev. Ashley Calhoun will portray Bishop Walter Lambuth (for whom Lambuth Inn is named) and his work. Scottish musician and folklorist Flora MacDonald Gammon will share dulcimer songs, as that was one of the instruments used during Asbury’s circuit riding time. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and interact with the speakers. During tours, people will be available to answer questions.
The Council and Museum family include more than 130 countries and opportunities for children will highlight a few of these countries. Face painting will be available and a special coloring book will be given to young attendees.
