The Social Action Team of the United Methodist Women at Aldersgate UMC (Shelby) invites you to an event on Tuesday, May 5th at 7:00 P.M. to learn about the difficult and complex topic of human trafficking. Guest speakers include Emily Fitchpatrick, Executive Director of On Eagle's Wings Ministries, in Charlotte N.C.; Rev. Mark Andrews, senior pastor of St. Luke's United Methodist Church (Hickory); and Captain Joel Shores of the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department. Emily serves on the N.C. Human Trafficking Commission and has been recognized in Washington D.C. for her work with women and teens. She is the founder of Hope House in Gastonia, dedicated to the rehabilitation of girls and women who have been trafficked. Rev. Mark Andrews cycled from the coast of North Carolina to the coast of Oregon last summer and raised $17,000.00 to fight human trafficking. He will share his journey in words and pictures and tell us how he came to be a part of the fight against this scourge. Captain Joel Shores will discuss what each of us should be aware of regarding this growing worldwide problem. The community is invited to attend this important and informative evening. There is no cost for this event.
